Licensure Requirements
Missouri is part of the Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) so you will not need a Missouri nursing license to practice travel nursing in this state if you have a valid license for another compact state.
If you don’t have a nursing license in a compact state, you’ll need to apply for a license. As a travel nurse, one of your best options for obtaining a license to practice nursing in Missouri is to apply for a temporary license, which is valid for six months. You may only be issued one temporary permit in your lifetime. This is provided at no cost as a courtesy.
To receive a Missouri nursing license by endorsement, you’ll need to:
- Send a notarized application to the Missouri Board of Nursing.
- Pay the application fee.
- Provide evidence of US citizenship by submitting a COPY of one of the following:
- U.S. Birth Certificate
- U.S. Passport
- Permanent Resident Card
- Unexpired Visa
- I-94
- I-20
- Official documents showing your lawful presence in the United States
- Pass a criminal background check.
- Provide your official final transcripts from your nursing school.
- Submit verification of your current nursing license. The Missouri Board of Nursing permits licensure verification through Nursys.Ⓡ. If your original state of licensure does not participate in NursysⓇ, you will need to contact the Board of Nursing in that state.
It generally takes 2 weeks to receive your Missouri nursing license.

- Application fee: $55
- Background check: $44.80
