South Carolina Licensure Information and Requirements

Licensure Requirements
If you do not hold a multistate license, you will have to apply for Licensure by Endorsement as follows:
- Complete the application and pay the associated fees.
- Submit a fingerprint-based criminal background check.
- A license verification from your original state of licensure or through NursysⓇ.
- Verification of your legal names.
- A Social Security Number.
- Notarized Signature Affidavit with Passport Photo Form.
- Declaration of Primary Residence Form with proof of residence.
- Verification of lawful presence
- Copy of active license to practice in another state, jurisdiction or territory of the United States.
- Documentation of continued competency by meeting one of the following requirements within the past two years:
- Completion of thirty contact hours from a Board-recognized continuing education provider.
- Maintenance of certification or recertification by a Board-recognized national certifying body.
- Completion of a Board-recognized academic program of study in nursing or a related field.
- Verification of competency and the number of hours practiced as evidenced by employer certification.
In South Carolina, you may apply for a sixty-day temporary license to practice nursing while your application is being processed.
Licensure Fees
Application fees for Licensure by Endorsement for RNs and LPNs include:
- Endorsement without a temporary license – $100
- Endorsement with a temporary license – $110
- Temporary license – $10
Nurse Licensure Compact Status
South Carolina is a member of the Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC). This allows RNs and LPNs who are licensed in another Compact state to practice across state lines without having to obtain a license in the other state.

South Carolina CEU Requirements
All South Carolina RNs, LPNs, and APRNs, are required to complete 30 contact hours of continuing education during the license period (two preceding years) for license renewal.
APRNs must have at least 20 of those contact hours be AANP-approved Pharmacology.
